I also found myself frequently frustrated by the page turn buttons. Furthermore, I found that I could not get apps to run due to limited RAM (512 MB). The Lumos runs a buggy and unstable reading app that kept crashing when it wasn’t getting stuck in a feedback loop of phantom touchscreen presses. With most ereaders that would be a strong recommendation, but with the Lumos those 3 books instead gave me enough time to truly appreciate the ereader’s shortcomings. I really got into the first book in a series, so I kept reading the second and third installments on the Lumos. I spent a couple weeks reading on the Lumos. ![]() That’s what the specs would tell you, but real life use has shown me that the screen resolution isn’t a problem (I didn’t even notice) but the software is. ![]() If you read its specs you would think that the Lumos’s selling points include a color-shifting frontlight and the option of installing reading apps on Android 4.2.2, and that its chief weakness was an 800 x 600 screen resolution. Half the value of an Android ereader is installing Android apps, so if I can’t install apps then this might as well be a basic ereader that runs Linux rather than Android. I’m going to half to test this further, but what I have seen so far is not encouraging. It crashes the first three times I ran it, and once I managed to log in, the app struggled to even show me my library. I can live with the screen (it’s the same resolution as on the basic Kindle) but the RAM shortfall has proven to be a serious issue.Īrta Tech makes it easy to install the Kindle app (it takes just two clicks) but that doesn’t really help any because I can’t run the Kindle app. (There’s also no Google Play, but that was to be expected for low-cost device.) This is Pocketbooks only waterproof e-reader and they have manual page turn buttons on the bottom of the screen and they are made of rubber. This is Pocketbooks entry level e-reader, you can normally get it for around $99 and even this model has manual page turn buttons on the bottom of the bezel. You can click it to turn pages forward and backwards. The most popular Pocketbook e-reader has manual page turn buttons made of rubber on the bottom of the e-reader. The InkPad 3 is Pocketbooks flagship e-reader and has manual page turn buttons on the bottom of the screen, used for turning pages forward and backwards. The Pocketbook Touch HD 3 has manual page turn buttons on the very bottom of the screen, one to turn the page forward and and backwards. ![]() Kobo has a rapid page turn system where you can press on either button and it will rapidly turn the page of an ebook. Left handed people can use the device this way. This device does not have a gyroscope, but does have a software feature that can rotate the screen. The Kobo Forma has two manual page turn buttons on the right hand side of the screen. The buttons do not have a large space between each other. The Nook Glowlight 7.8 2019 edition has two page turn keys on each side of the screen, making it ideal for people who are right or left handed. There is also an invert feature in the settings menu to change the page turn buttons from the top turning it forward and bottom going backwards and you can swap them. This device has a gyroscope so people who are left handed can use the device. ![]() The Kindle Oasis 3 has page turn buttons on the right side of the screen.
